The Cartshed - Now the Garage and the Workshop!

January 2015

We had a busy Christmas and a quiet New Year and as Britain went back to work the builders returned to start the cartshed.  They had taken the slates of the Courtyard elevation to make sure there were enough to finish the Bakehouse before Christmas so we had a tarpaulian over one elevation for a few weeks.

That's now gone as well as everything else

Just in time potentially as the winter storms set in! Not sure this roof would survive another winter
We remain optimistic that one of these days we will be able to reuse timber but we seem destined for disapointment in this respect.  Still the old wood feeds the fire and our neighbours log burner.
The cartshed roof begins to rise out of the ruins............
Looking through the new rafters from the front of the cartshed - soon to be our carport or garage if we can get a car in and doors on.
The old floor boards from the mezzanine in the cartshed...........................................and
the new flooring being cut to length.

Rafters all in place and the adjoining wall in the process of being tied back into it's rightful place i.e. not leaning on our cartshed

We have recycled the concrete tiles from the old Bakehouse roof for the rear elevation of the Cartshed - all on the roof ready for the roofers.
Roofers at work, already looks if it has always been there
Pointing the gable of the cartshed makes an amazing difference.

The rear elevation of the cartshed complete

Preparing the front elevation for the new Spanish Tiles that we are putting on this elevation to keep the look in the Courtyard similar.

The roofers have started their work on the front elevation.
Despite thinking that we had a cobbled floor in the stable end of the Cartshed it turned out to be more of the stone that the house and walls have been constructed from.  SO - its now in a pile in the Courtyard and we will use it to repair walls and such like in due course.
Digging out the floor in the Cartshed to install the concrete floor.
We have reused some of the old wood to re-construct the wall in the cartshed, not a lot as most of it has gone on the fire, but some of the old building remains.

The wall from the Man Cave with the loft above - more storage!

The tiles are on and the ridge tiles restored - covered to shelter them from the frost.

The roof is complete and the scaffolding is down - even the yard is beginning to look a bit tidier!

Its a garage - or at least it will be when we get the remains of the scaffolding etc out but the floor is down and there (should) be room for one of the cars!
Renovated gable and new (ish) door to the Man cave!
